I have tried the repair option over the months since this started and at least on one occasion this seemed to work. However, although both the quick fix and full repair processes run, neither has any effect on the 'Word has stopped working' problem when I select File-Save. I tried again after your message but same result. I noted last night that Microsoft has released some more guidance this month on these Word problems so I'll have a look at those links.

It tells me it cannot activate the product code, or that the product code is already in use if I type it in manually. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Office via my account - no luck.
I did not do the original installation myself. I see two computers when I log into my account, but only one product code, which is not the same as the product slip stuck to the side of the problematic computer. Was this reply helpful? Then reinstall from your Office Account. Each version of office WAS originally activated with their own activation code. It tells me the product code doesn't work, and running a repair didn't solve the problem, nor did an online repair, nor a full unistall and re-install.
